All About The Blogger

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. "

- Margaret Mead

Hello, lovely reader, and welcome!

I'm so happy you've come to check out my blog! For starters, I'm just now settling into this wonderful new chapter of my life and its filled with so much beautiful change! Last year alone, my husband and I welcomed our first child into the world (a precious baby girl!) and moved back home to southern Maryland. Our new house is quite short of perfection but we have loved making it our own!

Other fun facts about myself include: graduate from Virginia Tech (go Hokies!), married my hunk of a high school sweetheart, part-time civil engineer (specifically, water resources), own one home in central Virginia and one in southern Maryland, and I have too many hobbies...reading, piano, gardening (this one is new), interior design, Montessori, and homeschool research.

I began getting into all things DIY (which means Do It Yourself... for those not yet addicted) first by fixing/repurposing/painting furniture and my self-confidence grew from there! I especially enjoy transforming pieces that have been abandoned, outcasted, or are just plain ugly! Seeing any real wood being thrown away just kind of breaks my heart. And if I can turn it into something beautiful that someone out there (or just me) can use and cherish then that’s one less wasted resource and one less piece of trash in our ever-growing landfills.

If you can’t tell, I’m a hippie at heart, but a practical one…as in I believe in doing what I'm capable of in my own small world to better the environment. I also love Jesus, Jane Austen, health/fitness, classical music, history, and the Oxford comma.  All of these topics may spill out into this blog at some point so you've been warned.

Honestly, I just want to share my experiences working on these projects so that others can feel more

confident and motivated to fix up their old pieces instead of throwing them away. If you have any questions about a piece you’re working on, feel free to contact me for some tips!

Happy DIYing!
