Why So Many Birds??

Within the past year, I have found three wooden bird baskets throughout Lynchburg. One was at our local Goodwill and I found two more in the clearance section of my AS chalk paint store on two separate occasions. I don’t know if this is a Lynchburg thing or maybe wooden bird baskets were in and now no one wants them? I find them charming and they make for cute décor without being too cheesy.

So, what did I do with them? For one of the three baby showers I attended last fall, the color theme was pale yellow and grey for the baby’s bedroom. I obviously had to paint the wooden duck a creamy yellow and stuff it with other baby shower goodies! This basket could be reused for storage in a bathroom or in the little girl’s room. I had to mix AS Old White with AS Arles. There is another yellow in the AS line (AS English Yellow) but I was afraid it would be too bright even when toned down with AS Old White. I thought the AS Arles would give me more of a buttery yellow. I kept this look “clean” because most people don’t go for a shabby chic look in their nurseries… I might one day though, who knows?!
For the swan basket, I decided to use a two-toned distressed look. I thought the wood underneath would complement AS Old White and AS Antoinette (which I lightened some). You can see the poor swan's neck had been snapped off at one point so I did have to use some wood filler to make the cracks less noticeable. I LOVE how it turned out! It is now a romantic little accent piece in my grey bathroom.
The final duck basket was painted in the same style as the swan basket but with AS Duck Egg Blue (I couldn’t resist) over AS Old White.
I love my little duck baskets but I’m willing to part with the blue one…just doesn’t go with my house. Check him out in the shop!
