Whew, it's been awhile! And this will just be a quick blurb because I can't take credit for this design or the process. Luckily, we found a handy "how to" blog post that went over the whole process in great detail here by Happy Grey Lucky!

The idea to build a learning tower for Elizabeth came from my research into Montessori, an educational method used mostly with younger children (up to age 6). For now, I'm just researching and reading "The Montessori Toddler" by Simone Davies to get more ideas and see what works best for us. One of the suggestions to promote hands-on learning in the kitchen was to buy (or build) a learning tower. And honestly, Elizabeth is not in the best mood when we're making dinner. By getting her involved, we hope she'll be less cranky and more engaged. The best part is she should be able to use this for years to come!

So essentially, the learning tower was just an IKEA step stool (this one, to be exact) and a support cage that we built from wood boards, screws, and a dowel rod. Nothing too complicated but I will say it was definitely a two-man job and you want to be as precise with the cuts and angles as possible.

I bought the step stool as raw wood so I could seal the top two steps for a natural wood look to match our kitchen floors. The rest I painted white using Good Bones furniture paint in the color, "Bone," which is a slight off white.

This Mama is looking forward to all the dinner prep and cookie baking to come!
